Born in Igarapé Grande (MA) in 1975, Josean Martins has lived in Marabá since 1997. The artist has been drawing since childhood, but it was in 2004 that he began to dedicate himself to improving his techniques in a self-taught way.
Over time, he has experimented with various techniques and styles and always sought to broaden his knowledge with the study and practice of digital art. More recently, he has been experimenting with muralism and urban art.
The advice he received from his mother about the importance of formal education was key for creating the work “Future in Colors”. It depicts a black boy studying with the goal of becoming a doctor or a lawyer one day. The indigenous graphics in the background represent the miscegenation and diversity that are part of his city’s history.
The place he chose for the work is also part of the context that inspired the artist. The mural is located at the Dr. José Cursino de Azevedo School. The school name is a tribute to a black jurist who, like the artist himself, was also born in Maranhão and moved to Pará.
