Born in Maranhão in the city of Coroatá, and resident in Tucumã, Pará, Carlinhos has been painting for over 20 years. Besides painting panels and canvases, he also does residential and automotive painting. As an artist, he has worked in social and therapeutic projects, conducting creative workshops in NGOs dedicated to children and adolescents. He also teaches artisan techniques to adults at CAPS (Psychosocial Care Center).

In his panel MAPA shown here, he merges aspects and motifs of the cultural and natural diversity of Maranhão and Pará such as chestnuts, a babassu palm tree, the dream of gold and the carimbó and bumba-meu-boi dances. MAPA, the title of his work, is an acronym formed as an abbreviation from the first syllables of the states of Maranhão and Pará.
