Edermais is a self-taught artist who works with a variety of techniques and materials, having drawing as a reference and a gateway to other artistic languages. He was born in the village of Curvelândia in Maranhão, and was raised in São Pedro da Água Branca, where he currently lives, He produces his own and commissioned artworks in realistic design, in addition to working with industrial and residential painting and creating signs and panels for the region.
His panel Pai (Father) shown here was the first panel he gave a title to. The title is a tribute to his father and to the country, in broader terms. The artist combines here a brush and spray technique with finishing in colored pencils. Motivated by environmental issues, the context of the municipal elections and the Covid-19 pandemic, the artist seeks to reflect on the apathy and sadness of a people. For him, the panel shows a portrait of Brazil, a young but tired country, where tears are also capable of watering hope.
