Mary Dy was born and resides in Santa Inês, (MA). Unlike what happens with most artists, her passion for drawing came late while she was attending a degree course in physics. She first fell for the Anime comic style. Then her interest in other painting techniques grew, first as a hobby, developing then into a passion over time. Her art kept her company and helped her overcome her father’s premature death. Today she creates artwork on commission to earn an extra living.
Creating a panel in acrylic and spray posed her a great challenge. Some parts of it were finished with pencil, particularly the mother and the baby monkey. She gave it the title 2020. At both sides of the panel, she reveals the open wounds of 2020: on the left, the lack of health workers amidst the Covid-19 pandemic; and, on the right, a firefighter fighting against a forest fire. In the center stands the representation of the Divine holding the planet on fire and wearing a respiratory mask.
