City Mural in Marabá

From December 16 thru 19, the remaining five finalists in the project created a second city mural in Marabá (PA). The origin of the city is surrounded by different legends and stories. According to the most popular one, the name of the city in the Tupi-Guarani Indian language derives from the ethnic and cultural mix resulting from the coexistence between pathfinders, indigenous people and missionaries in the region. As another version goes, Marabá was a spirit that protected animals and who was venerated by the natives of those lands.

Inspired by this story, the artists named the mural “Mystical Forest”, thus giving the nature and cultural diversity in the region a new meaning and rescuing at the same time their local collective memory. The city mural is located on Viaduto 1, folha 26 over the Transamazônica Highway.

The mural was created by the following artists: Denis Costa (Canaã dos Carajás), Eva Wendy (Parauapebas), Iramar Art (Parauapebas), Mayara Lee (Marabá) e Rod77 (Parauapebas).
