Jonas Barros is a native to Marabá (PA) and grew up between the rivers Tocantins and Itacaiúnas. In 1996, he learned how to draw using Indian ink, but did not pursue it. After a break of more than a decade, he returned to the art world in 2020 and participated in the first edition of the Arte-em-Cores Project. In his works, he likes to portray the region where he lives and show a little of his city’s history.
For the second edition of the project, Jonas created the work “Chestnut Collectors”, which depicts two men collecting nuts from the forest to be transported by boats across the rivers and stored in sheds. According to him, the diet of these workers is based mainly on chestnuts, the milk extracted from them, game, açaí and cupuaçu
